The Millhouse, Slane, Meath, is one of my favourite wedding venues in Ireland, one I shoot in often, so I'm incredibly familiar with it. I happen to live close also! If you're going for an alternative wedding - it's an excellent option to consider.
The staff are friendly, professional, highly-experienced, and always on the ball. Many times I've seen unexpected occurrences, but each time the wedding coordinators have been there to assist. Face it; there will be unforeseen mishaps on a wedding day, but don't worry, it's all part it! Knowing that you're amonsgt staff that have seen it all will give you that peace of mind.
Secondly, the interior and exterior of the venue are brilliant for photos. The bridal-prep rooms are bright and airy, which will cause you to feel relaxed before your wedding, which is pretty essential! :) I love how the coach-house is right beside the Boyne River - very calming! Furthermore, the rooms are close to the ceremony room, which means you can gauge precisely when you pop into your wedding dress. Handy! Both places make for beautiful shots.
The ceremony room itself also has gorgeous soft light throughout. There is nothing worse for a photographer than over-head spotlights! I mean nightmare! - Because it causes horrible dark shadows to appear under your eyes, and this is most uncomplimentary. You won't have that issue anywhere in The Millhouse!
Likewise, the reception and dining rooms have lighting that every photographer craves. Everyone wants to look their best on their wedding day, so complimentary soft light is paramount! It's one of the main reasons I love it so much as a photographer. Of course, I recognize the unique outdoor features, there evident to everyone. Still, if the indoor lighting wasn't good, it means the only time you'd get beautiful shots would be for the couple portraits/family shots. Not good!
Don't worry if it rains either. I've shot many weddings there on rainy days, and you're covered. The ceremony room can be used for family shots, as there is a lovely white drape backdrop. Conveniently, this is all happening while the guests are inside the reception room having lovely food and drinks! Everyone is happy.
All in all, it's a top venue worthy of consideration. There's much more to be said, but why not go and visit it and see for yourself. Also, feel free to contact me, and I can send you on full weddings that I've shot there if you'd like to see more.
